EXPERIENCE:
The Pastor is expected to have at least 3 years experience as a Pastor and/or Associate Pastor at a mainline protestant church.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:
Generally, the Pastor is expected to be a disciplined, self starting, self controlled professional, accountable to the Congregation, and the Church Board of Directors, through the Chairman of said Board within the framework of the By-Laws of Grace Community Church.
Specifically, the Pastor serves in consultation with the following Commissions and Boards of the church:
Property Commission with regard to the use and maintenance of the physical property;
Commission on Membership with regard to publicizing and advertising the missions of the church, evangelism, and membership development;
Commission on Missions with regard to needs and concerns of persons and entities beyond Grace Community Church;
Commission on Stewardship and Finance with regard to budgeting, stewardship drives, and disbursement of funds associated with church business matters;
Commission on Staff Parish Relations with regard to church staff, staff performance evaluation, staff salaries, and staff benefits;
Board of Deacons with regard to ecclesiastical programs, services, and fellowship; and
Commission on Christian Education with regard to Christian education and youth fellowship programs.
DUTIES:
In general, the Pastor is expected to preach the word of God and extend the Christian ministry of Grace Community Church to the Communities of Boulder City and Henderson;
Specifically, the Pastor is expected to—
Plan and conduct at least two weekly biblically based inspirational church services;
Plan and conduct special services for Christmas and Easter;
Participate in prayer groups;
Conduct baptisms and communion services, perform weddings, and conduct funerals under terms and conditions consistent with church policies;
Oversee church staff which may include, but is not limited to, the Office Manager, the Director of Family Ministries, the Assistant or Associate Pastor, and the Director and Assistant Directors of Music;
Oversee and assist the community outreach programs;
Oversee and assist the Christian youth development and fellowship programs;
Oversee and assist the Christian Education programs; and
Minister to the infirm members of the congregation and the bereaved—visitation, counseling, prayer vigils, and funerals;
Minister to the growing families—counseling, fellowship, confirmation classes, and weddings;
Monitor and assist fellowship programs; and
Monitor and minister to Grace Christian Academy.
KNOWLEDGE, COMMITMENT:
The Pastor should have—
A broad based knowledge of or commitment to gain knowledge of the social, economic, and religious conditions of Boulder City, Henderson, Las Vegas, the country, and the world-at-large;
A broad based knowledge of the behavioral sciences;
A broad based knowledge of theology, the scriptures, and the Hebrew, Greek, and Roman cultures from which they were inspired;
A deep faith in the Trinity of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost as articulated by the Apostles Creed;
A deep commitment to teach and preach the gospel of Jesus Christ as given to us through the four Gospels and the Letters of Paul in the context of the Old and New Testaments.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
The Pastor is expected to—
To model the Christian life style;
Display integrity and emotional and spiritual maturity;
Have the ability and willingness to collaborate with staff and parishioners to carry out the
mission and vision of the church.
Have the ability to establish relationships, interact effectively, and minister to persons of
all ages from various, social, cultural and racial backgrounds;
Have the ability to research complicated biblical subjects, develop inspirational sermons, and otherwise communicate the Christian faith orally, in writing, by drama, and music to the congregation and the youth of Grace Community Church and the Community-at-large;
Be able to articulate prayers that relate to conditions, feelings, and concerns of people prevailing at the moment; and
Have the ability to conduct effective program planning meetings.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The Pastor is expected to be in good health and physical condition.
